Description
Château Carbonnieux Blanc 2018 | Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France
Terroir in Bordeaux?! You can’t be serious…
Two plots are very distinguishable in Carbonnieux’s vineyards. One, a clay and limestone based vineyards which are slightly more cool holds the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, for the blancs. The gravel and clay site is well suited to developing ripe Cabernet Sauvignon. A beautifully aromatic tension with weight and balanced acidity renders Bordeaux blanc’s generally incredibly gastronomic, but Carbonnieux remains amongst the best in terms of consistency and power.
The estate is steeped in history. It is among the oldest in Bordeaux, with strong links to religious orders past, in the same realm as Meyney, Pape-Clément and Solitude to name a few. Thomas Jefferson reportedly adored the wine (as well as his famed auctioned bottle of Lafite), so much so that an American pecan tree was planted by him – it still stands today!
